The extension portfolio
The extended portfolio will discuss the issue of facebook privacy in a more in depth manner. The social network facebook is used by many different people all around the world and many people suffer from privacy issues such as talking. Facebook headquarters received many complaints about their page layout and how it violates their privacy such as the mini feed which portrays every activity the person does through facebook. This exposes facebook users to stalkers and interent offenders and makes them prone to security and privacy issues. I will interview and international ITGS teacher.

There are many different solutions to overcome this concern with the use of data mashups that turn citizens into watchdogs. There are many questions in which a person can analyze to test the reliability of the source of the data mashups. A person must first analyze who conducted this study. Usually the information accessed is more accurate if it was conducted by organizations with research experience.
Another important factor to increase the reliability and prevent the spying on politicians is by having interviews and viewing others opinions.

Data mashups can be very helpful if used appropriately, but these can also have a negative impact on society. Data mashups are a form of technology that makes it easier for people to acquire information from a single place.
A positive aspect of data mashups is in the field of government and politics is that citizens can watch what their future or current leaders are up to. Politicians are known for being corrupt and dishonest, so if politicians know that their civilians are keeping an eye on them, then this will keep the politicians on their toes. According to a source before data mashups people “have to visit a secretary of states office and sort through the paper records”, but now “the level of access that’s now available to anyone to anyone at the click of a button is just tremendous” (Calore, Michal 2007). Anyone can view these sites to look at a politician’s monetary history and votes.
Since most of the citizens that are monitoring these officials are either bloggers, students, lobbyists or activists they wouldn’t know if the information they are viewing is accurate or not. According to an article it is sometimes hard to for a citizen watchdog to know whether to believe a particular study or not (LaFleur, Jennifer 2007). This is because many politicians have enemies that may post false accusations on data mashups that make it easy for the average citizen to believe. An addition concern is when people bug the privacy o politicians to find more about their officials. In reference to a source 59% of citizen watchdogs use these sites for person and not professional uses (Calore, Michal 2007).

The issue of the usage of data mash-ups has incorporates many IT systems such as the World Wide Web using the html code. Basically what the internet is a massive network functioned by impersonal routers, browsers, servers and computer codes. It’s a fundamental tool in many IT systems. (Answers.com).
Data mash-ups combine many data services from various sources into a new virtual data service. Data mash-ups are built using SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) (Wikipedia.com). It allows incremental growth and consumption. Service oriented architecture is a computer system for making business processes. Figure 1 shows the elements of SOA.

The trends in data mash-ups and the IT systems are fasten processing. Web services such as data mash-ups can be utilized to enforce service oriented architecture. Creating functional building blacks that ca be accessed over standard internet protocols is on for the main aspects if web services. They can be considered new application or just connecting them to systems to make them network enabled. The concept of SOA is present everywhere. It is an important factor of businesses and can help beneficial to businesses when is used I the right way.
Data mash-ups also use data bases which are a collection of data which depends on software to arrange the data. Data bases have many models to model data structure. These databases are stored in memory in files or hard disks. The below figure shows the icon of database.

This portfolio addresses the issue of privacy and particularly in the field of government and politics and how concerned citizens are watching on politicians utilizing data mash-ups. Mash-ups usually come in 3 types: data mash-ups, consumer mash-ups and business mash-ups.Data mash-ups are web applications that merge the any data from more than one source all into one incorporated tool. An example for this is “using cartographic data from Google Maps to add location information to real-estate data from Craigslist, hence creating a new and separate web service which was not originally predicted by either source.” (Answers.com)
The IT systems that are involved in this issue are computers, web browsers and the internet. Although data mash-ups can be useful this issue can be seen as an invasion of privacy since citizens are watching politicians every move on the web. The title of the article really tells us about how this technology is turning regular citizens into “watchdogs”. The reason why these citizens are spying on their politicians is because they are concerned of who is going to be their new president and would like to unveil and “skeletons in the closet”. Citizens are doing this by using "custom data mash-ups that use public databases to draw correlations between every vote cast and every dollar spent in Washington" (Calore, Michael 2007). With politicians becoming more corrupt and the simplicity of the internet data mash-ups have become even trendier.
As the popularity of data-mash-ups increases the privacy of politicians is now prone to be violated. Laws should be implemented and reinforced in order to stop citizens on watching the lives of their politicians to create a sense of trust between each other.

this week i finished my criteria A. i will post it on soon for feedback to improve the qulaity of my writing. i also dicussed the topic of my article with other group members. this week i have made a lot of progress.

Weekly report
This whole we have been working on the horizon project. We have chosen our groups and the topics. So far I have found an article about data mashups which is for my group title. In the horizon project we have been working with different people. Every person is in a certain group, for example I am in the data mashup groups and there are many other students with me. The title project is about data mashups in government and politics. My article is about government watchdogs and data mashups. So far about my portfolio I have started on criteria A and I am on the process of finishing it.
